1954: I sometimes forget my own past

1954 Taegu or Daegu. It’s so easy to forget the past. I forget sometimes that all of my grandparents, uncles, and my parents were born in this city. I forget sometimes that my parents were both a pre-teen and a teenager in 1954. I forget sometimes that my grandfather was a pastor and a translator for the American GI’s that were there during the Korean War only a few years earlier. I forget sometimes how much my parents had suffered before I was born and yet were able to overcome. I have been trying to picture what it was like to have lived the life my mother did.
