The Greatest Graduation Speech Ever

Posted in Other by jumbobody on June 17, 2006

When I graduated from college, our commencement speaker was the new First Lady of the United States – Hillary Clinton. I don’t remember much about her speech (in fact, I don’t remember much from those years), but I do remember clearly the first time I read the speech below. My brother-in-law is graduating from college today and I dedicate this post to him. It has truly been great seeing you grow to be a man of God. Congratulations to all the graduates.

And now, the greatest graduation speech I have ever heard or read:

(Postman has written some very insightful books, including one of my favorites “Amusing ourselves to death”.)

A WOMAN’S QUESTION

Do you know you have asked for the costliest thing
Ever made by the hand above?
A woman’s heart, and a woman’s life–
And a woman’s wonderful love. |inline

Gym Inspiration

It is rare that I get inspired while working out in a typical gym. The reason isn’t that there are so few people with great physiques, it’s that everyone seems to have one. A 6 pack here is as common as a belly is in the South. Even though I’ve been working out in the gym 3-4 days/week for more than a year now, compared to others in this beach town I feel pretty fat. So it is rare to get inspired when you are surrounded by throngs of people who could pass for fitness models. Yesterday during my workout, however, I saw two sources of inspiration and they probably had the two worst physiques in the entire gym. |inline

A Son Never Forgets…

M was born in 1944 in Daegu, South Korea to a pastor and his wife. She was the oldest of 5, with two younger brothers and two younger sisters. It wasn’t easy growing up as a pastor’s kid in those times, particularly when the Korean War broke out. M was only 6 years old. |inline
